A career change – is it the right decision for you?

From time to time our career motivation drops and we lose interest in our job. Some of the signs that this might be happening to you are:

  • Feeling bored and having difficulty getting through the day
  • No sense of accomplishment
  • Low morale and low self esteem
  • No interest in development, change and career next steps
  •  Reasons for low career motivation

Sometimes low career motivation happens as a result of events in our life that happen outside of work. But sometimes events at work can trigger career blues.

Typical work events that may lead to low career motivation are:

  • Doing something you do not enjoy
  • Lack of recognition from your supervisor or others
  • Poor guidance, advice and lack of direction
  • No clear vision and common goals
  • No feedback, untimely feedback or inappropriate feedback

So what should you do?

Too many candidates we see make a decision to change their career based on what they don’t want to do anymore (i.e. moving out of litigation because they don’t like conflict) without really considering what they want to do. These candidates can find themselves in the same career motivation slump further down the track of their new career path for this very reason.

If you're happy at your job, your odds of being successful at it are high.
