There are two common ways to become a legal executive:
On leaving school you can enrol in the Legal Executive Course at AUT. This is a part time course for one year at the end of which you will become a qualified legal executive. This certificate will get you started as an office assistant in a firm and occasionally as a trainee legal secretary. However experience is essential. It takes between 3 – 5 years to work your way towards a full legal executive role. Most legal executives work in property law and a few work in litigation.
If you are working already outside of legal or as a legal secretary you can do the legal executive course part time after work. To find out more about the course go here and the Legal Executive Institute.
